Message from the Dean

As I think about our future and the work we have done, I continue to come back to our foundations: community and purpose.
The School of Computing and Information Technology (SCIT) genuinely values the faculty, staff, students, alumni, donors and partners who have shaped who we are today. Many members of our community also participated in developing our strategic direction.
Deciding to pursue a serious learning endeavour like BSc in Computer Science, BSc in Information Technology, MSc in IT amongst others is an important life choice. It is a very wise investment in yourself and, probably, the best thing you can do to create exciting new professional opportunities. The payoff is not only professional, rather, many are surprised to discover, the return on investment is first and foremost personal. You will learn a lot about yourself along the way, see the business world and the world in a new way, face numerous challenges that will push you to go beyond what you thought you were capable of doing, and you will celebrate victories big and small (some of which only you will know about). As you will discover, the most challenging part is managing your “project” – doing the work, making the time, meeting the deadlines, staying positive, enjoying the process, and being both efficient and effective. And, like all investments, the more you put in, the more you will get in return.

The students who partner with us in our programs come from a broad range of professional and academic backgrounds, nationalities and cultures – just like our staff and our faculty. What makes the experience so rich is the combination of the knowledge, skills and cultural perspective of our faculty with your own and those of your peers – thus creating a unique learning experience from one cohort to the next. The School of Computing and Information Technology offer in-depth content in Computer Science and Information Technology that spans a wide range, from theoretical and algorithmic foundations to cutting-edge developments in ICT for Development, green technologies, security, dynamic databases and other exciting areas. Dedicated facilities are provided for animation, web and multimedia authoring, video editing, web service development, games, networks, and mobile app development.

We are elated at the progress we’ve made in partnership with our community. However, this is only the beginning. Our shared vision for the future will guide the College for years to come.
Thank you for joining us on this journey – I cannot wait to see what we achieve together.
